So by now you're no doubt aware my name is Catherine, hello :)
I come from a small town in Nottinghamshire called Retford. Nobody knows where that is. I'm not just saying that to sound all 'small town' most people have no idea, so if you do congrats you're special and I like you a little bit more than everybody else. Because nobody knows where it is I often find myself lying to people. For example:
Person: So Catherine where do you live?
Catherine: Near Sheffield?
(Then the conversation will go one of two ways...)
Person: Lovely
(or)
Person: Oh yeah I know Sheffield, where abouts!?
Catherine: You do?(!) Well actually I'm closer to Doncaster...
Person: Oh yes I know Doncaster
Catherine: REALLY!? DO YOU KNOW RETFORD?!
Person: No
Catherine: Yeah, I live near Doncaster.
So, yeah. I'm sure all you small town folk (SUPPPPP!?) can sympathise with me there. Retford is your typical nice market town, pretty park couple of schools, plenty of small town drama. Everybody knows giraffes, not really it is what you thought I was gunna say after all, everybody knows everybody if it's not too cliché to say. The only people who complain about it are the people who never leave. Ergo, I am a person who left with fond memories.
Where did I leave to? UNIVERSITY! In 2010 I left little old Retford for the big lights of... Middlesbrough. Yeah basically another town, but a fairly big one this time, quite far away too. I study English Studies and Creative Writing at Teesside University (TEES TEES TEESSIDER, TEES WHAT?), and spend most of my time writing very long essays about things nobody really wants to be writing about. However, I do enjoy writing so I can't complain and I've made some beautiful friends and memories blah blah blah.
When uni is over I will be returning to mighty Retford, back home to my mum and dad's house with my little brother and sister. I'm going to be working all summer and winter until January 2014 when the exciting stuff happens. Me and my good friend are going travelling for about 8 months, starting in Asia we're going from Dubai to Bangkok to Cambodia to Vietnam to Laos down to Singapore, then across the Australia all up and down the east coast then to New Zealand from top to toe then we're going to Fiji and our last stop is L.A before we come back home to England. JEALOUS ARE YA?!
I joke obviously, I am very excited though I've saved a lot and I can't quite believe we're going but we are and its amazing. Anyone with any tips please pipe up, Lord knows I'm gunna need a lot of help a long the way.
When I return I'm hoping to do a graduate scheme in retail so I can get a job in buying or advertising, something along those lines so I can write but still afford to wash and vegetate.
This is the plan but as you will no doubt learn my plans rarely work out, and I'm sure to look back at this in time and have to do A LOT of alterations. Until then I'm pretty happy with it.
So I think that's it.
